Growing Up in the Marine Corps: A Marine Security Guard Reflects on His Journey

Serving as a Marine Security Guard (MSG) can be a challenging and rewarding experience that can help a Marine mature as an individual. MSGs are responsible for protecting U.S. embassies and consulates around the world, and they must be able to handle the unique challenges and demands of this role.

While serving as an MSG, a Marine may be exposed to different cultures, languages, and environments, and may need to adapt to new and sometimes difficult situations. This can be a demanding and stressful experience, but it can also be an opportunity for personal growth and development.

Be sure to check out the interview with Marine Sergeant Sean Luttrell:

Military Service and Beyond: An Interview with USMC Sergeant Sean Luttrell

Through their service as an MSG, a Marine may learn valuable leadership skills, develop a greater sense of responsibility and discipline, and gain a better understanding of the world and their place in it. They may also have the opportunity to represent their country in a positive way and make a meaningful contribution to international relations.

Overall, serving as an MSG can be a challenging but rewarding experience that can help a Marine mature as an individual and grow in new and meaningful ways.

I had an absolute blast sitting down with Sergeant Nathan Owens (United States Marine Corps) during my last interview. We discussed finances while in the military, experiences at Marine Security Guard, and I was able to introduce one of my favorite bands: Korn. Watch as he reacts to Twisted Transistor (Promo), from their 2005 album, See You On The Other Side. Grab a drink - he certainly did - and join us on this journey.
